Daily digest - Tuesday, 15 January 2012

Cor! Busy news day today. I have only managed to get one post out, and that was mainly copypasta. It is a good read, though.

The big news today, of course, is the European Court ruling on the four Christians that were claiming some sort of religious discrimination or wrongful dismissal, or something. Only one of them had their case upheld, and I disagree with that. Especially in light of Stephen Law's article.

One item that - for some unknown reason - didn't seem to make the news, was that the Cornwall Council General meeting voted against introducing a plan that would see the county's poorest people footing the entire bill for central Government cuts. I don't hold these people in very high regard, but the right decision was returned today. The Conservatives had better watch their backs at the local elections in May. UPDATE: BBC has a report here.

Short intro tonight. It is getting late and I plan a busy morning ahead.

UPDATED: What is wrong with this picture?

Now, I have to say, I am quite fond of the Guardian. Their religion posts cover a broad range of faiths and positions that you do not see on many national newspapers, and they are always well written, but the title does suffer from a historical proclivity to howling typos that I thought they had over come.

Not so it would appear.

One of the biggest stories in the UK at the moment is about the Church of England's upcoming vote on whether to allow female bishops or not, and as the Grauniad are wont to do from time to time, they have a poll to gauge the public's opinion.

The result as it stood when I responded was... er... surprising?

An Independent Paul Candidacy Would Help Obama

Source: Pew Research

In considering a possible general election matchup between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney this fall, voters remain about evenly split in their preferences, with 50% saying they would vote for Obama and 45% for Romney.

But a third-party candidacy by current Republican candidate Ron Paul would attract support from nearly one-in-five voters and help Barack Obama’s reelection prospects significantly. In this hypothetical three-candidate race, 44% say they would back Obama, 32% Romney, and 18% Paul.

WingNut Daily poll attempts 'independent' journalism

Go on. Vote for Barack Obama. He is currently in third place - behind Paul and Santorum - but not far behind.
